Discord Invite Scams and How to Stop Them

Discord invite scams include unwanted server invites used for spam, raid recruitment, or phishing. Here’s how they work and how to stop them with server settings and a Discord security bot.

What are Discord invite scams?

Invite scams can mean: (1) mass posting of invite links to other servers to steal members or promote scams, (2) invites to servers that then phish or malware users, or (3) raid coordination via invite links. In many communities, posting unsanctioned Discord invites is against the rules and can be detected and removed automatically.

How to reduce invite abuse

  • Set clear rules — Define whether and where invite links are allowed (e.g. only in one channel, or not at all).
  • Use roles and permissions — Restrict who can post links or create invites so only trusted staff can share invites.
  • Use a moderation bot — A bot that detects “Discord server invites” as a category can delete or flag unauthorized invite links and alert staff.

Using Scam Sentinel to block invite scams

Scam Sentinel includes a filter category for Discord server invites. You can enable it for text (and optionally image captions) so the bot flags or deletes unauthorized invite links based on your server policy. Configure it from the web dashboard along with other filters (scams, phishing, NSFW). For a full overview, see our Discord security guide.
