How to Identify Fake Discord Bots
Fake Discord bots are accounts or bots that promise “free Nitro,” rewards, or giveaways to trick users into clicking phishing links or giving up their login details. Here’s how to spot them and protect your server.
What are fake Discord bots?
Fake Discord bots are part of scam campaigns. They often send DMs or post in servers with messages like “Claim your free Nitro” or “You’ve been selected for a reward.” The links usually lead to phishing sites that steal Discord tokens or credentials. Legitimate Discord bots don’t offer “free Nitro” in this way.
Signs of a fake or malicious bot
- Promises free Nitro or rewards — Official Discord never gives Nitro through random bots or DMs.
- Asks you to click a link or “verify” — Phishing sites mimic Discord’s login page to steal your token.
- New or low-activity account — Many scam bots are created recently and have few servers or members.
- Generic or copied messages — Scripted, identical messages across many users or servers.
How to protect your server
Use a Discord security bot that can detect scam and phishing content in messages and images. Scam Sentinel uses AI to flag these patterns and can delete messages or alert staff. Configure it from the dashboard and keep your community safe from fake bots and phishing. For a full overview of server security, see our Discord security guide.
